We voted (finally)!

5 comments

After waiting in line for 4 hours yesterday, we were finally able to vote!  Thankfully we were only outside (in the freezing cold, not to mention wind!) for the first 1½ hours.  The rest of the line was snaking around the inside of the building, Disneyland-style (or airport-security style, take your pick LOL).  We got to the polls 20 minutes before they opened and there were already cars parked all up and down the side of the road as the two nearby parking lots were full.  Good thing we dressed warm and brought hot chocolate :).  I hadn’t planned on taking a half day off from work, but I’m glad we went when we did.  Who knows what the rest of this week and next Tuesday will be like!

Despite the wait, I feel very strongly that voting is a privilege and our responsibility as citizens.  Our armed forces put their lives on the line every day to preserve our freedoms as well as the freedoms of those around the world, and that freedom includes the right to vote.  I realize that technically that means we also have the right to not vote if we so choose, but IMO if you don’t vote, you can’t complain about the outcome ;).  Whoever you decide to vote for, whether it be one of the two main candidates, a third-party option, or even a write-in, please take the time to make your voice heard!  In addition to the national election, there are state and local elections going on as well where your input is needed.  Ok, I’m off my soapbox now! J

So, if you’ve already voted did you encounter long lines also?  If not, are you planning to vote early or wait for the big day next Tuesday?  This is the first time we’ve ever voted early, but with the turnout expected we thought it might be a good idea.

SEW & WW: Ready for action!

This is the only time I was able to coordinate all three boys' costumes for Halloween... two firemen and a dalmation puppy. I wasn't able to actually get a picture of all three of them together, though. It was hard enough just getting Bearhug (left) and Cuddlebug (right) to stand still next to each other long enough to get this one (which as you can see was not intentional on their part, lol).

Cuddlebug and Bearhug were 4 yrs old, and Bitty was 7 months old.

Voting today

2 comments

We're on our way to vote this morning!  We've heard reports of long lines throughout early voting, yesterday they said people were waiting 4-7 hours... I'm thrilled that so many people are voting!  We're hoping to get there early enough to avoid some of the lines, but we're prepared to stick it out either way.

Mondays in Motion #6: Halloween memories

6 comments

Mondays in Motion!

This was our little celebration for Halloween 2002, when Bearhug and Cuddlebug were 16 mos old. They were dressed as Thing 1 (Cuddlebug) and Thing 2 (Bearhug) from the Cat in the Hat (minus the blue hair). It seemed a fitting costume idea, here's a quote from the book. I wouldn't say they had "bad tricks" but other than that, this definitely fit them:

"Thing Two and Thing One! They ran up! They ran down!
...
Then those things ran about With big bumps, jumps, and kicks
And with hops and big thumps And all kinds of bad tricks." - Dr. Seuss

Even though we didn't understand why yet, we knew they couldn't handle a lot of excitement so we opted for some low-key fun at home. This was the beginning of our ice cream on Halloween tradition :). In addition to ice cream, the festivities included dancing, flapping, wheel-spinning, and a little scuffle over a toy (nevermind the fact there were TWO of the same toy) at the end, lol.

It's your turn! What memorable moments would you like to share today?

Quotes and conversations of the week

6 comments
I haven't done one of these for a while but I have a few to share:

I gave the boys a heads-up that they have a doctor's appointment scheduled this week (checkup) and when they asked about shots, I told them they've probably get a flu shot but I think that's it. They had a lot of questions about what the flu shot is for, and what the flu is. We told them it's a virus that attacks your body.

Bearhug's response: "The flu virus trying to take over your body is like vampires trying to take over your house." LOL Yeah, something like that :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cuddlebug: "Did you know that I can fly? But I can only fly down."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Little Bitty (hearing it was bedtime): "No WAY!!" LOL where did he hear that?
me: Yes WAY!!! (he was not impressed)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bearhug: "Where's my report card money? Is it invisible?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cuddlebug: "Someone who's an expert at something, was once a beginner."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
dh (commenting on his birthday): "I guess I'm closer to 40 now than to 35."
me: "no, you're only 36"
dh (excited): "really? I thought I was 37. Wow, I just gained a whole year!" (nevermind the fact that technically 37 is also closer to 35 than to 40)
me (taking a little time to do the math in my head): "wait, no you're right. You're 37"
dh: "Aww, man!! Now I just lost a year again!"
I found this over at MomDot and had to share, it's hilarious (and refreshingly nonpartisan). The end is the best part, lol.
Here's one more picture from our trip to the pumpkin patch last weekend. I love the colors in this one, and the corn reminds me of back in the day when my family used to live in New Mexico.
Been partying this week
4 comments
I haven’t been online the last couple of days, I was back online this morning with a Halloween update and some random silliness (because that’s what I do best, lol).  I am sooo behind on visiting my bloggy friends, I haven’t forgotten about you and I look forward to catching up!  I also had some new visitors this week and am excited to check out your blogs!  Hopefully this weekend.
In case you’re wondering what excitement could possibly pull me away from my (usually) nightly blogging adventures, it’s because I partied a little too much earlier this week and have spent the last couple of nights trying to recuperate (translation: sleep).  It went something like this:
The other night, Little Bitty treated us to a middle-of-the-night meltdown, from about 2-4am, complete with wrestling match(es) and screamfest.  He had fallen asleep on the couch as soon as he got home from school that day and despite repeated attempts to wake him up he wouldn’t, so we put him to bed around 8pm.  He woke up around 10:30pm and was still tired but didn’t want to stay in bed so he sat on my lap on the couch until about 11:30 when we were ready for bed (we were tired too).  He was not impressed about bedtime, and his screaming actually woke Cuddlebug and Bearhug up (usually they sleep through his shenanigans).  We heard noise in their room and went to check on them, only to find them both in the closet, halfway dressed.  Apparently they heard commotion and thought it was time to get ready for school, lol.  We told them it was still night time and to go back to bed.  In an effort to keep him quiet so they could sleep, I took Bitty downstairs and tried to get him to eat.
He was ok for a while but decided he wanted a cookie and the injustice of being told “no” set off the mega-meltdown.  He hasn’t figured out that sometimes even if you ask nice (which he did at first) the answer is still no.  I had already let him have a couple of cookies earlier in the evening (because he asked nice and it’s tough to say no to that face!) but I didn’t want him eating cookies at 2am so that time I said no.  So much for keeping him quiet.  Within a few minutes I got the feeling that (as usual) the cookie was long forgotten, he just wasn’t happy and wanted to make sure everyone within a 50-mile radius knew about it.  If it hadn’t been the cookie that set him off, it would have been something else.  Finally got him calmed down at nearly 4am, he wouldn’t go to bed though so I took him downstairs and we ended up sleeping on the couch for what was left of the morning.
Ahh… the 3am meltdown, fun times.  Sigh.  At least this kind of thing is getting less frequent.  Or maybe I’m just blocking it out of my memory more effectively, haha.
On a funny note, he was cute earlier in the evening, he was eating his cookie and singing “da pah ma tu-ee” (there’s a party in my tummy).  It’s another Yo Gabba Gabba song, meant to encourage eating vegetables, but it works for cookies too I suppose.  He smiled really big when I figured out what he was saying J.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also this week, we celebrated dh’s birthday, with ice cream cake (yum!!).  The boys were all excited about that.  Bitty even managed to feed himself *with* a spoon.  *Without* turning the spoon over.  I was impressed!  Usually he has a hard time with spoons, he scoops the food and then turns it upside down on the way to his mouth, spilling the food, and then he gets annoyed when the spoon is empty by the time it gets into his mouth.  So that’s our progress of the week!

This morning, Bitty’s school had a petting zoo come to visit, so dh joined them and took some pictures of Little Bitty with the animals.  He said he wasn’t shy at all, sounds like he had a good time J.  I can’t wait to see the pictures!  I’ll be sure to post some here too when I get a chance.

The verdict is in (Halloween plans)...

1 comments
... and the Halloween costumes are officially chosen. Despite the fact that I started asking them in September, we are now up against the wire because of course I waited to be *sure* of what they wanted to be and then couldn't find what they were looking for. So last night we talked about it again and came to the final decisions.

Bearhug wants to be a sword-wielding wizard (he initially wanted to be a witch, until we informed him that witches are girls, and boy "witches" are wizards). He really liked the swords and pitchforks when we went to the Halloween store last Saturday, so that's where the sword part comes in. We made him choose one or the other, lol. He wasn't really interested in any of our suggestions that might be more suited to carrying a sword, but that's ok :).

Cuddlebug wants to be a bunny at all costs. So since we couldn't find a bunny costume (that was reasonably priced anyway) and there's no time to sew one at this point, I asked him if he'd be ok if I made one out of sweats. He's cool with that. He actually wants to be a "glowing bunny" (as in radioactive??) and I have no idea how we're going to pull that off. He said something about silver so maybe I'll get some silver glitter to put on his costume.

Little Bitty couldn't care less about Halloween. He loves Thomas though so I'm pretty sure he'll be fine with wearing his brothers' Thomas outfit. I'm pretty sure he would NOT be interested in any costume that involved anything other than regular clothes at this point (the one I'm thinking of is made from a sweatsuit) so we'll stick with that. I hope it's not too big for him. Guess I should check that. The alternative would be a farmer or Mario or Bob the Builder, we have some overalls that would fit him and I could do any of those from overalls. Assuming he would agree to wear overalls, which is questionable.

So there you have it! There is a special-needs Halloween party going on this Saturday, and one at our church on Tuesday (which we will probably only go to the last part, they typically can't handle the overstimulation of being there the whole time). On Friday, we may try to do a small amount of trick-or-treating (maybe one street or part of one street, however much they are up for) and then do our usual, ice cream!

Halloween costumes for ferrets

2 comments
Last weekend when I was looking for a ferret picture for my tag post, I found these and thought I'd share them since it's almost Halloween. We had a project at school to design an online store (not real) and me being me, I decided mine would be "selling" Halloween costumes for ferrets.

I designed several little costumes (except the last two, which came from stuffed animals) and Chloe agreed (hehe) to be my model. He was generously compensated for his efforts with Cheerios, one of his favorite treats. :)

Silly Monkey Stories: Pumpkins as pets??

11 comments

Bearhug and Cuddlebug seem to have adopted our new pumpkins as some sort of "pets." They insist on keeping them in the house and playing with them, rather than put them on the porch as decoration. And, they have named each of them:

I love some of the names they came up with, lol. I guess as long as we don't have to clean up a pumpkin litter box, I don't have a problem with it :).

Update on the boys

5 comments
The Good:

Cuddlebug and Bearhug brought home their report cards on Friday - the first ever with actual letter grades. They both did awesome!! We are really proud of them for all of their hard work. They are each making good progress toward their IEP goals for this year also, as is Little Bitty.

The Bad:

We're dealing with some difficult anger issues with the boys, Cuddlebug in particular. He's trying really hard, but is pretty frequently letting his emotions get the best of him. He actually bit his Nintendo DS last week when a game wasn't going the way he wanted it to. He left toothmarks on the screen, but luckily it still works. Similar issues with Bearhug, but less frequent. We're working on it...

The Silly:

The "Energizer Bunny of the Year" award goes to...
Bitty's shoe. Yep, it's been over a month now since the lights on one shoe got stuck in the "on" position, and it's still going!

Mondays in Motion #5: TV & exercise

10 comments

Mondays in Motion!

Who says watching tv isn't good exercise? Little Bitty gets quite a workout watching "Yo Gabba Gabba" and dancing along.

Here's another clip, same dancing man with some music I added in for fun. Just pretend the song says "he" instead of "she" lol.

Magic Marker Monday: Spooky rooms

5 comments

Photobucket

Cuddlebug and Bearhug were assigned a project for school to design and build a "spooky room" (or other type of room) using a shoebox. All of the rooms were combined into a "haunted mansion" and each of the students had to come up with persuasive points to "sell" their room.

Each of them (independently) decided to do a room based on King Boo's haunted castle, from the Mario Bros video games. As you can see, they made quite a mess in the process of creating their boxes.

Little Bitty decided to do a little artwork of his own:

Bearhug with his completed box. There's a bookcase with a spider, ghosts (King Boo's), and flying caps, among other things.

And Cuddlebug with his finished box also, complete with King Boo's, flying caps, bookshelf and cats.

Pumpkins Everywhere!

6 comments

We were going to take the whole family to the pumpkin patch today, but Bitty made it clear that he wasn't interested in going anywhere, and we didn't feel like turning something that's supposed to be fun into a battle. So, dh stayed home with him and I took Cuddlebug and Bearhug.

We had to wait for the dryer because Cuddlebug didn't want to go out without his bandana, but once it was dry we were good to go!

I took lots of pictures, here are a few of them :)

Cuddlebug especially liked the "ghost" pumpkins:

Waiting for the hayride:

Enjoying the scenery on the hayride:

The hayride stopped near a pond so everyone could feed the fish.

A little popcorn for the road, and a final picture with a huge pumpkin!

Once we got home, Little Bitty was excited to see the pumpkins :)

Making his "funny face," lol. He saw this on Yo Gabba Gabba.

I just really like this picture of him :)

After a little playtime, the boys took the pumpkins outside to leave on the porch. But when it started getting dark, they wanted to bring them in so they wouldn't get cold. Here's Bitty holding onto his pumpkin while he watches a little Yo Gabba Gabba before bedtime.

Not long after that, I found three pumpkins sitting on the couch... "watching tv" according to Bearhug and Cuddlebug. Dh came into the living room ready to watch the Texas game after the boys went to bed, only to find pumpkins in his seat, LOL.
