Pinewood Derby Pictures

Cuddlebug before the race

Bearhug and Cuddlebug being silly as they wait for the races to begin :)

The award-winning cars :)

"Sportiest Car" by Bearhug

"Coolest Sponsored Car" by Cuddlebug (patterned after the actual NASCAR Gamestop car). It's a little hard to see in the picture, but that's Mario Kart on the front.

And of course we made a car for Little Bitty too :). He's into Baby Einstein again now, so we went with that (and of course included his favorite number and color also).

Pinewood Derby

This weekend was our first Pinewood Derby. The boys had a great time making their cars (and we made one for Bitty too).

Bearhug's car won an award for the "Sportiest car" and Cuddlebug's car won "Coolest sponsored car" (his was the only one patterned after a real NASCAR car).

I am so proud of them for all the hard work, and also for showing good sportsmanship. They were a little disappointed at not winning overall but they did not get upset, and they took the time to congratulate their peers who won. Way to go boys!

Unfortunately, Little Bitty didn't do quite so well, dh had to take him out to the car because he became obsessed with wanting to touch the race track, push the buttoms, etc. which would have disrupted the race. I'm thankful to dh for doing that so I could stay and take pictures :).

After the race, we took them out to lunch and then home for an afternoon playing in the sprinklers, because it was a gorgeous day outside (over 80 degrees!).

Pictures to come as soon as get them uploaded :).

Blog Gems: Spray!

Jen over at The King and Eye has a great idea called Blog Gems in which bloggers can link up to share posts from our archives.

The current topic is to share a "creative" post. So here's one from March 2009 in which I shared one of Bearhug's stories, "Spray." It's a great display of his drawing as well as his sense of humor :).

Bearhug's description of the story: "This story is about a boy. And he sprays."

Celebrating Bitty - Spelling Bee Champ!

A proud mama brag celebration post today :).

Yesterday Bitty won his class spelling bee - TWICE! Bearhug said they told him it's the first time someone has won twice :).

Here he is holding the prize he got for winning - yes, that's PINK sand in there, how perfectly appropriate ;).

While we've known for a while that he is good at spelling (I think it's fair to say "master speller" now, hehe) I'm especially impressed that he was able to be engaged and participate in something like this long enough to win. TWICE! :D

Spring cleaning

Feels like forever since I posted but I guess it's only been about three weeks.

We have several spring cleaning type projects that are keeping us busy at the moment. Stuff that has been put off for waay too long so of course it takes forever when we finally get around to it, right?

I've also been intermittently working on a little "spring cleaning" of my blog, which I haven't done in quite a while either.

Hoping to unveil the newly designed version sometime in the next century. Seriously, I know exactly how I want it to look but I'm a little html-challenged so it's taking a while to actually figure out how to get it to look the way I want it to.

Eventually :).

I have a lot of catching up to do on reading too, looking forward to it!
