It's not about political correctness, it's about kindness and common decency. Contrary to the old "sticks and stones" adage, words can and do hurt.

So true; it's all about having consideration for others, even if they are different from us.
Be polite. A simple mantra to preclude all slurs.
Not a negative. Not a complete ban (for the few non-slur uses of the word, including as a legal label).
