Pinewood Derby bound

Comments
It's almost that time of year again.

A couple of weeks ago, we picked up some supplies for this year's Pinewood Derby cars.

Yesterday, we headed to Home Depot to cut out our car designs.

Bearhug actually got into it and let the guy show him how to use the sanding tool.

Bitty supervised (with M&M's).

Cuddlebug wasn't as hands-on, but he did do some of the sanding and showed me his car when he finished.

Bitty decided he wanted in on the action (and he had a car too, even though he's not old enough for Cub Scouts yet we always buy him a block to make his own car along with his brothers). I wasn't about to let him try the power-sanding tools but he was content with the sandpaper, especially when he saw Bearhug using it.

Pinewood Derby Pictures

Cuddlebug before the race

Bearhug and Cuddlebug being silly as they wait for the races to begin :)

Bearhug after the race

The award-winning cars :)

"Sportiest Car" by Bearhug

"Coolest Sponsored Car" by Cuddlebug (patterned after the actual NASCAR Gamestop car). It's a little hard to see in the picture, but that's Mario Kart on the front.

And of course we made a car for Little Bitty too :). He's into Baby Einstein again now, so we went with that (and of course included his favorite number and color also).

Pinewood Derby

Comments
This weekend was our first Pinewood Derby. The boys had a great time making their cars (and we made one for Bitty too).

Bearhug's car won an award for the "Sportiest car" and Cuddlebug's car won "Coolest sponsored car" (his was the only one patterned after a real NASCAR car).

I am so proud of them for all the hard work, and also for showing good sportsmanship. They were a little disappointed at not winning overall but they did not get upset, and they took the time to congratulate their peers who won. Way to go boys!

Unfortunately, Little Bitty didn't do quite so well, dh had to take him out to the car because he became obsessed with wanting to touch the race track, push the buttoms, etc. which would have disrupted the race. I'm thankful to dh for doing that so I could stay and take pictures :).

After the race, we took them out to lunch and then home for an afternoon playing in the sprinklers, because it was a gorgeous day outside (over 80 degrees!).

Pictures to come as soon as get them uploaded :).
